1. Support for people whose first language is not English

For people whose first language is not English, the NHS 24 Language Line 15  connects the person to an interpreter. This enables the person to explain the problem to NHS 24 in their own language.

  • Alzheimer Scotland  – specialist dementia charity in Scotland.
  • Dementia UK   – supports families living with dementia.
  • Age UK   – information on age related health conditions and staying fit and well.
  • AbilityNet AbilityNet's Tech volunteers can provide free IT support to people with cognitive impairment.

 

4. Support for children and young people
  • Me first 30  – Developed by Great Ormond Street Hospital, Me first is a resource hub with tools to support children’s health and wellbeing, including for example:
    • Preparing for procedures
    • Communicating with children with visual or hearing impairments
    • Health coaching
    • Mental health
  • Young Scot 31  – a bank of resources to support with health and wellbeing including information on Coronavirus, mental health, diet and support services.
  • BBC Mental Health and wellbeing teaching resources 32  – a collection of short films exploring issues such as mental health, body image and learning differences for example.
5. Support for people with learning difficulties
  • Easy Health 33  – an online library of easy read health materials with easy to understand words, pictures and films.
  • AbilityNet 34  – factsheet which explores how technology can support people with learning disabilities.
  • PAMIS 35  – support for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities including their families, carers and professionals.
